Jemison Mansion - Historic
Tuscaloosa, Alabama
The Jemison Mansion is a home located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Jemison Mansion was originally owned by the Jemison family who was a state Senator for Alabama. He and his family wanted a grand house that showed their prominence and wealth. The 1850s style house is now a historic landmark and was restored to its original beauty.
We were tasked with first measuring the mansion (each student received an area or room) and then piecing together a set of Construction Documents. I was in charge of the wife's sitting room/parlor on the first floor. We recored everything from basic floor plans to the details on the fireplace and doors.
The second project was to turn our space that we measured and detailed into a space in a different era. I received the Rococo era. I decided to turn the wife's parlor into a game room and winter sitting room. The room has windows, but they look into other interior spaces. This makes it perfect for winter because the heat of the fireplace stays in the room and no cold air is let in.
